Terraset’s purchase supports American rice farmers while cutting methane at the source

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – May 19th, 2026 – AgriCapture today announced the purchase of 1,000 verified carbon credits by Terraset, a nonprofit that deploys philanthropic capital into high-impact climate solutions. The credits were generated through AgriCapture’s U.S. Rice Methane Reduction Project (CAR1513), the largest rice methane project in United States history.

The purchase reflects Terraset’s expanding portfolio strategy – including both durable carbon removal and high-impact superpollutant elimination – to tackle emissions across timescales and deliver impact in areas such as water sustainability and farmer livelihoods.

“Dollar for dollar, no other carbon project delivers the same combination of superpollutant impact, water conservation, and financial return to rural farming communities as rice methane projects. We’re proud to partner with Terraset to catalyze the rice sector’s transition to low methane, low water use farming practices.” – Tyler Hull, CEO, AgriCapture

Emerging research is confirming what we’ve built Terraset’s portfolio around: that near-term superpollutant abatement and long-term carbon removal are complementary tools. Rice methane is one of the highest-leverage near-term interventions we know of, and AgriCapture is doing it with the integrity and rigor the market should be rewarding. We’re excited to keep building in this space.– Adam Fraser, CEO, Terraset

About the Project

The credits were generated by farmers implementing alternate wetting and drying (AWD), furrow irrigation, and other precision water-management practices that cut methane emissions while conserving water. These practices can reduce methane output from rice fields by up to 70% compared to conventional flood irrigation, and each verified credit also represents nearly 300,000 gallons of water saved.

Methane is a superpollutant with a global warming potential approximately 81 times greater than CO₂ over a 20-year period. Rice cultivation accounts for an estimated 10–12% of all human-caused methane emissions globally, making American rice farming a high-leverage point of intervention. AgriCapture’s rice methane projects deliver nature-based superpollutant mitigation with significant water conservation and farmer economic co-benefits.

The credits are third-party verified and registered with the Climate Action Reserve under project CAR1513, one of the most rigorous carbon registries in the world. In addition to third-party verification, the credits purchased by Terraset are rated “A” by BeZero Carbon and have received Core Carbon Principles (CCP) labeling, reflecting strong additionality, permanence, transparency, and governance.

Participating farms in AgriCapture’s project span the Mid-South region across Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, and Texas. Farmers receive catalytic financing that incentivizes the adoption of sustainable practices. This is more than a carbon transaction, farmers are being paid to improve the long-term health of their land and operations, and buyers receive high-impact, high-integrity credits verified by AgriCapture.

About AgriCapture

AgriCapture helps farmers monetize sustainable land and irrigation management practices by generating high-integrity, data-driven carbon credits and connecting them with buyers committed to credible climate action. With in-house monitoring, measurement, reporting, and verification capabilities, AgriCapture is a leading developer of agricultural carbon projects and a trusted partner to companies seeking durable, nature-based emissions reductions. To date, AgriCapture’s BeZero ‘A’ rated project has supported over 166,000 acres of U.S. rice farmers across six states to incentivize the adoption of regenerative practices and is driving impact globally with listed projects in Brazil, Argentina, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Cambodia.
