AgriCapture is generating carbon credits for three Texas Panhandle ranches, creating conservation revenue for landowners.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., February 11 – In a groundbreaking effort to merge conservation with economic sustainability, AgriCapture and the Texas Agricultural Land Trust (TALT) have partnered to protect over 6,300 acres of native grasslands in the Texas Panhandle—ensuring both environmental and financial benefits for landowners. Through AgriCapture’s Avoided Grasslands Conversion Project, the ranches will generate carbon credits for preventing conversion to cropland, avoiding high-emission agricultural activities, and preserving vital ecosystems.

Grasslands store more than one-third of land-based carbon, yet they remain at risk of development and conversion to cropland. When grasslands are converted, the carbon stored in the soil is released into the atmosphere, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

By safeguarding these lands, this partnership not only prevents carbon loss but also enhances water quality, reduces soil erosion, supports biodiversity, and provides essential wildlife habitat.

“We know that conservation is a team effort, and partnerships like this one with AgriCapture are key to creating market-driven incentives for land stewards. This project not only brings new carbon opportunities to Texas landowners but also serves as a model for how we can align conservation with economic sustainability.” said Andy James, Director of Additive Conservation for TALT.

Avoided Grassland Conversion credits are issued for protecting native grasslands from being converted to cropland, representing the associated reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. AgriCapture will generate and sell third-party verified carbon credits, providing landowners with a financial incentive for their conservation efforts.

“We believe that market-driven solutions are essential for scaling conservation efforts, and this partnership with TALT illustrates how carbon markets can reward landowners for sustainable stewardship,” said Tyler Hull, President of AgriCapture. “By creating economic incentives through carbon markets, we are empowering landowners to preserve their land.”

This initiative marks an expansion of AgriCapture’s partnership program, offering more landowners the opportunity to participate in carbon markets.
