Upchar joins network of regional partners to support sustainable rice production across Latin America
AgriCapture has partnered with Upchar to bring its rice methane reduction project to Argentina, expanding the project’s footprint across Latin America.
Farmers across Latin America, including Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and now Argentina are joining AgriCapture’s program to implement Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), an irrigation practice proven to reduce methane emissions by up to 70% and conserve around 300,000 gallons of water per carbon credit generated.
Through this project, farmers gain access to global carbon markets and receive financial incentives for adopting regenerative practices. As the implementation partner, UpChar will engage producers, coordinate practice adoption, and ensure high-quality data collection that meets carbon market standards, leveraging local networks and on-the-ground expertise.
“We’re excited to work with the UpChar team to bring regenerative rice production to more farmers across Latin America,” said Ashton Moody, Director of Product at AgriCapture. “By pairing their local expertise with our carbon market platform, we’re helping producers unlock new revenue streams for practices that deliver real climate impact.”
“As we scale our rice husk and straw biochar projects on one end of the value chain, this program naturally fits our vision of bringing globally proven carbon solutions to the farm gate—adding another high-impact tool to our climate-action toolkit,” said Horacio Madou, COO of Upchar. “Working alongside AgriCapture allows us to scale these efforts and demonstrate how sustainable rice cultivation can create lasting value for farmers and communities.”
AgriCapture continues to expand its network of regional partners to bring sustainable rice production to more growers throughout Latin America. This international growth complements AgriCapture’s work on more than 150,000 U.S. rice acres and underscores rice cultivation’s potential as a powerful, nature-based climate solution worldwide.
