Partnership with NatCap to Scale Sustainable Rice Farming Across South America

AgriCapture is proud to announce the launch of its first international rice carbon project in Brazil, in collaboration with implementation partner NatCap Sustainable Solutions. This milestone builds on the success of AgriCapture’s U.S. Rice Methane Reduction Project, the largest rice carbon project in U.S. history.

The Brazil project, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the main rice producing region in Brazil, will introduce rice farmers to alternate wetting and drying (AWD), a sustainable irrigation method that’s reduced methane emissions by up to 70% and conserves approximately 300,000 gallons of water per carbon credit generated. Through this initiative, Brazilian growers will gain access to global carbon markets and receive financial incentives for adopting climate-smart practices.

To date, AgriCapture has generated and sold over 32,500 verified rice carbon credits to international financial institutions, creating a proven model that delivers both environmental impact and meaningful income for farmers. The Brazil expansion marks a critical step in bringing these benefits to farmers across South America.

“AgriCapture is excited to extend our work to Brazil and offer rice producers new opportunities to participate in carbon markets,” said John Lanahan, Director of Demand at AgriCapture. “This expansion not only benefits growers but also enables companies around the world to further invest in regenerative agriculture and meet their sustainability goals.”

“NatCap is proud to drive this pilot in Brazil, opening the door for rice farmers in South America to access carbon markets. We bring local expertise and strong producer relationships to help scale climate-smart rice through real, on-the-ground engagement, said Mathias Almeida, CEO of NatCap.

As AgriCapture’s implementation partner in Brazil, NatCap brings a strong track record in delivering field-based sustainability initiatives. NatCap is responsible for engaging producers, coordinating implementation, and ensuring data collection meets carbon market standards, leveraging deep local relationships and on-the-ground expertise to make this pilot a success

Beyond launching pilot projects in Brazil, AgriCapture plans to scale acreage and grower participation across South America. This international expansion complements AgriCapture’s work on more than 150,000 U.S. rice acres and positions rice cultivation as a powerful climate solution worldwide.
